Burton BMW of Milton, we're excited to help you prepare for the end of your lease so that you can get ready for whatever comes next in your car-driving journey. Read on to learn our five steps to lease-end success!

How Can I Prepare for the End of My BMW Lease?

When the end of your lease is coming up, it's important to be ready for what's next! The end of each lease brings new opportunities, and some decisions that need to be made about what you want your next move to be. In order to make sure your leassed BMW is ready to return to the dealership, it's important to go through a short checklist of tasks that will streamline your experience. Here at i.g. Burton, we're excited to walk you through these five simple steps that will get you ready for the end of your BMW lease, and make sure you're prepared for your next lease or purchase!

Pre-Inspection
Towards the end of your lease, you'll need to have your BMW inspected in order to return it to the dealership. This ensures that your BMW is still in good condition, with no major damages. If there are major damages, your inspection will help you identify them, so that you can get them repaired in time for the end of your lease term. In general, small exterior dents or scratches less than 2 inches in length are not considered major damage, and are not cause for concern. If you leased through BMW Financial Services, they will actually reach out with you directly to coordinate your inspection! However, you can also schedule your inspection independently if you prefer.

Inspection Results
Once your pre-inspection is complete, the next step is to receive the results, and review the findings. This is where you'll see a breakdown of your vehicles interior, exterior, and mechanical condition, as well as any damages that require attention. Your mechanic will provide you with an easy-to-read summary of the inspection to highlight any areas of concern. They may even provide recommendations, as well as cost estimates for your service. For those who may have gone over the mileage allotted in their lease, you'll also have access to discounted pricing on additional miles that you can enjoy before your lease expires!

Maintenance and Repairs
As we mentioned above, you'll need to set aside some time to address any major damages that may have occurred. While small dents and scratches don't necessarily count as major damages, some examples of damages that need to be addressed include cracks, tears, or creases in your bodyside panels, deep scratches to the bumper, broken exterior parts, cuts, burns, or tears in your interior upholstery, or permanent stains. In order to address these issues, you can schedule an appointment with our service center, where we use OEM BMW parts to repair your vehicle! This is always the best choice, as using unapproved parts can lead to additional fees.

Plan Your Return
Once your inspection is complete, and any and all repairs have been made, it's time to make a plan for returning your BMW! Of course, you always have the option to buy out your lease, but this step applies specifically to those who plan to return their vehicle at the end of their current lease term. Before you return the vehicle, there will be one final inspection to ensure that all the suggested repairs have been completed, and that the vehicle is ready to come back to the dealership. There, you will also confirm the receipt of your vehicle by singing a Federal Odometer Statement. Since this is one of the final steps in the process, you can expect a relatively quick and easy experience!

Vehicle Return Statement
Once your vehicle has been safely returned to the dealership, the fifth and final step is to get hold of your vehicle return statement. This will provide you with further confirmation that your vehicle has been properly returned in acceptable condition, and that you have complied with all the guidelines stated in your lease contract. If you're a My BMW App user, you will be able to access this information via your online portal. However, you can also get a paper copy within two to three weeks following your return!
